Bold and unapologetic in juxtaposition of shapes and stones, you can say Type is just our type of jewels. With multi-stone inline necklaces (like the stunner above) and pre-stacked rings that do the styling for you, the buzzy line has quickly become a new BE Community favorite.

Designer Sara Bassan of Type answers a quick 15 in our latest installation of Small Talk.
What about jewelry excites you the most?
Jewelry is the epitome of self-expression. It’s like getting dressed every morning, but it gives you something extra, something personal. It’s for women who believe their jewelry should be as multifaceted, timeless, and unique as they are.
What are the words that best describe your designs?
“Fine with a twist.”
What is your favorite piece currently available at Broken English?
The Multistone bracelet or necklace. I’m not very colorful when I dress, but as I always say: color isn’t loud, misuse of it is. The combination of stones creates something special, and most importantly, it just looks right.
Hi! Do you mind introducing yourself?
Hello, I’m Sara, born and raised in Panama. I’m married to a brilliant architect and I’m a mother of four boys and one girl. I love fashion and self-expression, and I’m currently finishing my studies as a gemologist. I’m always curious and always looking towards what’s next.
Where are you currently?
Panama has always been home, but I’m constantly on a plane. Miami has become my second base.
How did you arrive at designing your line?
After having four boys, we found out we were having a girl and we went a little crazy. We bought everything. One day, I went to a local jeweler to buy her a charm, and it felt completely disconnected: outdated, styleless, and not something I could identify with at all. That moment opened my eyes. I realized I didn’t see myself reflected in what was available, so I decided to design her first piece myself. That was the beginning: the moment I started expressing my type through jewelry and sharing it with others.

What are three words that best describe your designs?
“Fine with a twist.” Sorry - I needed the fourth!
What does a typical workday look like for you?
I wake up at 7:00, send the kids to school, then coffee and the gym. I love heavy lifting. After that, it’s the office: emails, logistics, and operations. I leave the afternoons for design: creating new pieces or working on custom projects. Social media is also a huge part of my daily routine. I’m a very private person, but with Type, I allow myself to share a glimpse of where I’m coming from.

Who is your ultimate jewelry muse?
Women who dress for themselves: confident, effortless, and unapologetically personal.
Do you have a favorite stone?
I love a good diamond if I had to choose one. But what truly excites me is the result of combining two stones and the dialogue between them.

Is there anything new and exciting coming up?
We’re fringing into 2026. We’ll be launching our new collection at COUTURE in Las Vegas. It’s a continuation of our story but with an exciting twist.
Where do you find inspiration?
Anywhere: people watching, restaurants, travel, Instagram. Inspiration comes from what simply catches my eye.
Best movie or show you’ve watched recently?
I’m a Lincoln Lawyer fan.
Best way to wind down after a busy season?
Summer in St. Tropez, especially right after finishing COUTURE in Las Vegas.
