Jewelry Diaries: Daisy Shaw-Ellis

Editing some of the most incredible jewels for countless iconic covers at both Vanity Fair and Vogue, Jewelry Director Daisy Shaw-Ellis (and her exquisite taste) has become an established jewelry authority in the magazine world. While she is no stranger to the rarest gems and otherworldly couture jewels in her farflung travels as an editor, she also celebrates the power of jewelry that’s quietly beautiful and meant to be worn and loved in the day-to-day. Here she talks about what she’s drawn to right now and her favorite pieces at Broken English.

Are there some trends you’re really into right now? In jewelry, fashion, music, art, food?

I love the resurgence of silver and white gold in the market and jewelers that are really having a good time with color. It's all a reaction to the current climate but both styles have been slowly creeping back for a while and it's fun to embrace pieces that I would have shied away from.  For food, I've been really enjoying cooking and creating with fresh produce from the farmers market. I'm grateful that New York has such a strong and varied food scene and, beyond that, I am always on the hunt for the best margarita in whatever city I am in.

What about the fall are you most excited about?

Layering. With clothes and with jewelry.

Aside from work trips, do you have any other fun upcoming travels? What are your must-have's when traveling?

I was in Provence at the end of the summer and it was exactly what I needed. Calm, sunny, picturesque, and a lot of exploring one of my favorite places through the eyes of my kids. I do travel a lot for work but traveling on my own time and staying put in one place for longer than a few days was a treat. I'm looking forward to some snowy destinations this winter. I don't ski, but snow shoeing and people watching are always a good time.
