Fashion Director Kevin Huynh
Kevin Huynh is someone who really knows his jewels. Presently as In Style’s Fashion Director, he provides readers with the latest runway trends, red carpet jewelry coverage and unique ways to get more wear out of the pieces you love. Personally, he is a huge vintage jewelry collector and loves the thrill of the hunt. In his guest edit for Broken English, he focuses on unexpected texture, color and playfulness in genderless styles everyone can wear with confidence.
What kind of jewelry vibe are you especially loving right now and why?
I have always leaned to a more eclectic, well-traveled kind of vibe with vintage finds being the cornerstone of my collection. I love something that feels super unique and doesn’t require too much styling - the pieces speak for themselves!
How are you styling some of these jewels personally?
I love an earthy, 70’s hippy kind of vibe and the Lou Zeldis pendants are right up my alley. With just a sweater vest or with a turtleneck with temps starting to drop, it’s just such a cool look. I love a huggie hoop with a graphic pop like a Trouver in a dark shade of enamel or black diamonds for a tiny bit of edge. But my signature is one-of-a-kind vintage brooch, I have such a great collection I’m always adding to. They look great with a blazer or on a bag for a special touch.
Are there some trends you’re really into right now? In jewelry, fashion, music, art, food?
I’m loving lots of color for fall jewelry. Rare stones in rich, autumnal hues seen in Daniella Villegas’ exquisite creatures but I also think pops of bright green emeralds or sapphires that Yi Collection is using in their bracelets are so pretty.
What about fall are you most excited about?
Fashion month will be well underway by the time this interview is out! It’s a month because the four major fashion cities take up about a week each, which can get pretty chaotic. Luckily, early fall is such a fun time to get dressed in. Light layers and mixing summer-y elements with fall ones like morning sweaters with sandals. The possibilities are seemingly endless!
Aside from work trips, do you have any other fun upcoming travels? What are your must-have's when traveling?
I hope to tack on a trip at the end of fashion month, somewhere in Europe I can unwind after such a big stretch of time socializing and running around. Even if it’s just for a short weekend before getting back into the office to review everything I’ve seen on the runways, a recharge is so necessary. I’ll definitely be bringing the vintage jewels I’ve worn during the shows that I’ll style more casually after, a good book to take a tech break with and a face mask or two to freshen up tired eyes.
