Get the jewelry answers you need now in our weekly rapid fire Q+A with BE’s Founder Laura Freedman. On the agenda this week: Mother’s Day gifting.
1) As founder of Broken English, you must have plenty of hints dropped to you by mom shoppers to pass along to their gift-givers! What are they asking for this year?
Most of my mom friends and clients are wanting bolder versatile pieces. More substantial classics seem to be on the wish list this year. Everyone is asking for the Engelbert drop links - we can't keep them in stock! Anita Ko has designed a genius new claw earring series that looks good on everyone. I also keep hearing people ask for her Cosmo ear cuff. Other hot items are the Marina B Trisolina bangles and rings.
2) What are some sentimental ideas for gifts to make them feel extra personal for Mom?
For sentimental and personal Mothers’s Day you can’t go wrong with Foundrae. Everything that she designs has meaning and sentiment baked in. My personal all time favorite tenants are resilliance, internal compass, and true love. Also, Loquet is a mother’s day favorite. It’s so sweet and personable. It’s the perfect vessel to hold all your dearest memories.
3) Is there a category of jewelry or a specific piece you think every mom should own?
I think every mom should own one statement piece - a true “one and done” for day to night. Elegance that can be worn understated or dressed up. This could be an Anita Ko tennis necklace, a Sidney Garber Dome Cuff, a vintage cocktail ring, or Cadar hoops.
4) For the mom that has everything, is there one thing you don’t think she has yet?
Viltier is a newer line for us that I’m really excited about. I am loving their initials and gemstone collection. I also die for their tennis necklace. All of the mechanisms are exquisite. The line is very well made - future classics!
5) Are there any mother-daughter design duos that a storytelling mom would love to have on her radar?
Shay and Buddha Mama are our mother daughter design teams that have been with us for years. You want to be adopted into both of those families for sure.
