Hi! Do you mind introducing yourself?
Hi! I’m Carolina, the designer behind Carolina Neves Jewelry. I was born and raised in Brazil, and I’ve always been drawn to things that tell stories. Jewelry just happened to be my favorite way to do that.
Where are you currently?
I split my time between São Paulo and Vitória, in the state of Espirito Santo, where our atelier is based. But lately, I’ve been spending more time in New York as our international presence grows.
How did you arrive at designing your line?
I grew up surrounded by art, fashion, and gemstones. They were part of everyday life in my home and became part of who I am. Even though I studied Business, I always felt pulled back to the creative universe. In 2012, I finally listened to that instinct and launched my own line in my hometown.
What are three words that best describe your designs?
Colorful, emotional, modern.
What does a typical work day look like for you?
No two days are ever the same. Some days I’m sketching new ideas, others I’m choosing stones with our team or working on photo shoots. There’s always music, coffee, and a lot of laughter around. I also love spending time one-on-one with clients, they’re one of my biggest sources of learning and inspiration.
What about jewelry is so exciting to work with?
Jewelry carries meaning, and that’s what inspires me the most. A piece becomes part of someone’s story. I also love working with color, gemstones in different shapes always spark new ideas. Creating designs that feel modern, playful, and wearable from day to night is endlessly exciting for me.
Who is your ultimate jewelry muse?
Women who know who they are. Confident, curious, and on-the-go.
Do you have a favorite stone?
I’m obsessed with emeralds!
What is your favorite piece available at Broken English?
Can I pick two? I love the Berry Gem Cuff, the mix of colors and finishes feels very true to my design language. And the Emerald Baguette and Diamonds Duo-Chain Necklace, because I’m passionate about emeralds and love how the contrasting chains give it a modern, unexpected twist.
Is there anything new and exciting you have coming up?
Yes, we’re launching a new Holiday collection this month called Línea. It brings together two artistic worlds I love: the fluid curves of Art Nouveau and the bold geometry of Art Déco. The pieces mix emeralds, rubies, tourmalines, malachite, lapis, mother-of-pearl, and diamonds in a vibrant play of colors and textures. It’s a collection about movement, balance, and personality. A celebration of mixing shapes, eras, and stories in a way that feels very true to our DNA.
Best place to find inspiration?
I find inspiration everywhere, in colors, in nature, in art, and especially in the women around me. I love observing everyday life, how women move, dress, and mix pieces. That’s often where a design begins.
Best soundtrack for designing?
Honestly, my client's stories. Listening to what each piece represents for them, special moments, memories, and dreams, is what inspires me most when I’m designing. Nothing fuels creativity like real life and real women.
Best book you’ve read lately?
The Bible. It’s the book I keep on my nightstand. I’m always reading different passages, and they inspire me and bring a sense of calm and clarity.
Best movie or show you’ve watched recently?
Lately I’ve been completely hooked on K-dramas. I love how emotional, warm, and beautifully told the stories are! They’re the perfect mix of comfort and inspiration after a long day.
Best way to wind down after a busy season?
After the holiday rush, I love taking a few days to go skiing. It’s a sport my husband introduced me to, and it completely won my heart. But during the season itself, whenever I need a quick reset, nothing beats escaping to a quiet beach, especially with my three kids (our 5-year-old twins and our 3-year-old). Sun, sea, and time with them always brings me back to center.
